MoonBladder is the sophomore album by soundscape artists SNARES OF SIXES. A collective of ever-evolving artists and musicians led by Jason Walton, the ensemble paints with a wide brush yet creates highly detailed and intricate music that lends itself to deep listening and patience.
A single piece clocking in at 29:28, MoonBladder dips its pen in the electronics of mid-period Ulver, ambient/noise, meditations on field recordings and guitar, as well as cavernous vocal passages.
Walton, best known as the bassist for Agalloch, has returned to composing experimental music and MoonBladder is his most accomplished and rich work to date. The album features a staggering lineup of artists including members of Kayo Dot, Winds, Lawnmower Deth, and Dreadnought, among many others.
"...a dark ambient exploration of the soul, pushing new boundaries and leaving listeners questioning the heart of existence. Moonbladder impresses on a variety of levels, and letting yourself get immersed in its quiet brilliance is a delight on so many levels. This is dark music at its finest." - Two Guys Metal Reviews
"There are elements in Moonbladder, a twenty-nine minute tone poem created through the manipulation of sound, both treated, organic and played, which actively seem to welcome a shared experience with the listener that is very often lacking with material such as this [...] As I listener I have not felt so included in a piece just through the act of listening for some while." - Sentinel Daily
"…Walton looks to the lesser-explored ends of his own unexpected discography. On upcoming full-length album MoonBladder, what once was a 25-minute MIDI doom metal cover of Rush’s ‘Red Barchetta’ turns into an abstract soundscape, filled with the sounds of rattling bed frames, mutated guitar solos, and a particularly stirring sung passage by Kayo Dot mastermind Toby Driver." - Decibel Magazine
"MoonBladder combines electronic and acoustic elements to create a more wondrous world. It starts with pulsating synths, expected enough considering its predecessor, before electric guitars follow the synth melody, one of a few metal-adjacent callbacks on the record. Skittering electronic beats and ghostly, faint vocals–samples of number stations as well as recorded voices–trade in and out, as do beautiful guitar and piano. At one point, there’s even some jazz drums, one of many out-of-the-ordinary items that appear momentarily and disappear without notice." - SILY
"If you like Agalloch or Walton’s early work, post-rock or blackened folk metal, you will enjoy the journey that is MoonBladder…" - The Sleeping Shaman

"From legends Agalloch to “acoustic doom metal” outfit Dolven to Snares of Sixes to Self Spiller, Jason William Walton has
proven himself time and again to be one of the most forward-thinking, multi-faceted, and engaging musicians in the heavy metal realm, period."
The album description mentions an “emotional apex.” That’s really the difference between Stare and the band’s previous albums. Ulcerate was always supremely technically proficient. I just didn’t care all that much. Their growth has come from making music you will feel. Metallurgical Fire
